Tamara Atschba
About your teacher
Tamara Atschba grew up in a family of singers in Tbilisi, Georgia, and received her first piano and composition lessons at four. At the Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory she earned four diplomas — as concert pianist, chamber musician, accompanist and teacher.
She has performed across Europe, the USA, Japan, Korea and Mexico, and her playing has been praised by Yehudi Menuhin, Zubin Mehta (“such a wonderful and powerful sound!”), Vladimir Ashkenazy and Ivry Gitlis. Her album “20th Century Feminine” with violinist Louise Chisson received the Diapason d’Or and a Grammy nomination.
Tamara is Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she has taught since 1995, and since 2020 also at the Franz Schubert Konservatorium; she has taught at the Prayner Konservatorium since 2012. Her approach to piano technique comes from years of research in teaching and performing: efficient ways to solve problems in the hands, wrists and back, release tension and play fluently.
